Women from across Wandsworth gathered at the Battersea Arts Centre café for a deeply empowering Women’s Safe Spaces event, held as part of Women’s History Month.
Celebrated every March, Women’s History Month recognises the achievements, struggles, and contributions of women throughout history and in our communities today.
The event was hosted by the three Women’s Officers from our local CLPs. Speaksers of a wide range of ages and background shared honest and inspiring stories about how we each found our way into and around politics. We spoke openly about the challenges we’ve faced, including the barriers put in our paths and the glass ceilings that still limit too many women.
I shared why it’s so important for me to hold the space of Deputy Leader of the council as a Black woman at this level of politics, and how I use my platform to support and uplift other women. We also explored the importance of solidarity, mentorship, and the power of representation.
To close, we worked together to come up with practical ideas on how to support more women into leadership and decision-making roles—both in politics and beyond. It was a powerful reminder that change happens when women come together, share space, and lift each other up.
Pleased to have been part of such an inspiring event.
